One of our basic necessities is water. Every day we need at least 8 glasses of water just to survive. Some active people specially the sports minded and hardworking one drink more because they perspire a lot purging liquid out of the body. Bottled drinking water or bottled mineral water is now common to most home and work offices. To extract water from it you need either put it in a water dispenser or replace the cap with a push pump and manually pump it. Without water dispenser and hand water pump, it will be difficult and messy just to transfer it to a drinking glass, plus you have to tilt or lift the heavy container which is very hard especially to kids. It is very similar to a thermos for hot and cold water or coffee, wherein you can push the top large button to have a glass of hot or drink. This product is made particularly to a standard 5 gallon drinking water bottle. It has an extended plastic pipe that extends at the bottom of the bottle. The top part of it looks like the original cap that use to seal the bottle by turning clockwise or counter clockwise to open. The manual hand pump is incorporated in it with a big push button that can be operated by pushing with one hand. Some people also use and bring these type pump in their outdoor activities like going to picnic at the park or summer camping. It is an ideal companion if you go to places where there’s no nearby electric outlet like if you are working in the middle of the farm or remote construction site.
For less than $10 you can have a pump than can be easily installed to a 5 gallon bottle by replacing the cap. You can even get them very cheap, almost $5 a piece, but some people are complaining about them because it easily breaks and really worth about few months of use. If you are new to this item and you don’t know which one really works, try reading some reviews and see what other people are saying. To avoid and hassle, when you buy one try to buy a spare for an easy replacement just in case they break. You can also use these pumps during unexpected nationwide brownouts during calamities like storms and earthquakes. We probably don’t need them now but it’s better to be prepared than sorry.
Other type of non-electric hand pumps is the hand bilge pump. This type of pump is used for draining water from an open container with large mouth or opening. In order to pump water, the body must be submerged into the water because the water inlet is located at the bottom of it. One good application is for removing dirty water from an aquarium while cleaning it or removing sea or lake water from a small boat that doesn’t have a battery for a 12 volts pump to hook on to. Using it to a container with small opening like small plastic container, soda or wine bottle will be impossible.
